Do you collect milk cartons? or are you thinking of an activity that you can do to help your school recycle mil cartons? Well I have the contest for you. I first learned of this contest last year from a colleague, and was reminded of it when I visited a classroom today and saw that the teacher had tons of milk cartons. I immediately had to share with the teacher this awesome contest, and yes, now I am sharing it with you. Made By Milk hosts a milk carton contest for school that will get the students involved, engaged, and thinking critically. This years theme is transportation. So yup, that means that the students will have to build a mode of transportation using only milk cartons. The great thing about it, is that it is hands on, and opens up so many teaching opportunities, and of course there is money. So don't let me rant on and on about this terrific opportunity. Learn more at http://madebymilkcontest.com/. I can't wait to see all the awesome designs. Have fun!
Khan Academy use to be and still remains the buzz for math teachers. A site where teachers and students can go to get in-depth information and visualization of math concepts. However, what about SCIENCE? Khan Academy has definitely broaden their instructional concepts by including in-depth information, and visualization for science. From Biology, to Chemistry, to Physics, to Astronomy, it is all there. A place where teachers can pull awesome science video, or refer students to view them as an additional resource. They're there and they're free.
So the question for chemistry teachers is whether or not there is going to be an EOC test at the end of the year. The answer is YES, there will be an EOC test for chemistry. Now I know you may be thinking where can I receive practice materials. Well as of now Pearson has not posted any practice questions or materials for the test. Hopefully by the second semester there will be something concrete for you to use in your class. However, before then, please know that there are some dropped Chemistry SPI's and some revised SPI's to guide you in what you need to teach so that your students are successful on the EOC. Please see the Science Curriculum tab to view those SPI's. Read more about the NGSS development for Tennessee ---> NGSS.
